Yesterday afternoon I finished "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I love Cormac McCarthy's books. I've read most of them and find his style mesmerizing. Not only is he a master of the plot, but he is the quintessential master of words.
This book was no different. The subject matter was disturbing and comforting at the same time. Ultimately it was a difficult read for me, as the plot was, for me, about the love of a parent, and the overwhelmingly difficult task we have as parents to care for our children. And that love can be sweet and simple and satisfying. Or in the case of our neighbor-gone-mad, it can be complex and destructive and selfish.
Read it yourself and see how it affects you.
